Felt crafts are fun to make, with the amount of stitching involved in this craft it is best for older kids, younger kids can definitely still help out. This reindeer ornament is adorable and will look great hanging on the Christmas tree.
List of Supplies:
- Felt fabrics
- Needle
- Thread
- Cotton or scrap felt
- Pencil
- Scissors
Step -1:
Print out the template and cut out the patterns. Just click on the template picture and you can download/print.
The template includes base, head, lower body, upper legs, horns, ear patterns, face, head and belly patterns. Cut out 2 pieces for each upper leg pattern. Trace the base, head, lower body, outer ears, and upper legs on the brown felt. Then trace the belly and the face on white or cream felt, inner ears on pink felt, the nose on black felt, and trace the horn on dark brown felt. Cut out the traced patterns from the felts.
Step – 2:
Stitch the nose on the upper-middle point of the face cutout and use black thread on a needle to stitch the eyes on both sides of the nose. Stitch the inner ear cutouts on the outer ear cutouts and stitch the belly cutout on the bottom side of the lower body cutout.
Step – 3:
Stitch 2 upper leg cutouts together around the side.
Step – 4:
Place the face pattern on the bottom side of the head cutout and stitch only along the top side of the face cutout.
Step – 5:
Place the lower body pattern on the bottom side of the base cutout and place the 2 upper leg patterns on both sides of the body as well. Stitch around the sides and bottom to join all of them together (base, lower body, and upper legs) but keep the top side open for now.
Step – 6:
Place the ear and horn cutouts on the top side of the base pattern.
Step – 7:
Place the head pattern on the top part of the base pattern, keeping the ears and horns between the base and head layers.
Step – 8:
Stitch around the open side of the head pattern to attach it with the base and lower body.
Step – 9:
Keep a small opening on the side of the head while stitching. Stuff the felt reindeer pattern with scrap felt or cotton through the opening.
Step – 10:
Close the opening to secure the stuffing. Stitch the mouth using black thread if you want to.
Step – 11:
Attach a small ribbon loop on the backside of the felt reindeer plushie if you want to use it as an ornament.
You can use some red felt to attach a scarf, or any color you’d like the scarf to be, either stitch it at the back so it stays in place or you can glue it on with a hot glue gun.
